Road Trip Day 2 - Kool Deadwood Nights

Our plan, this evening, was to take in
the official first day of Kool Deadwood
Nights ~ look at the cars, eat, listen to the
music and enjoy the activities.

The streets were filling up with cars as
they started to block the streets so
only the old cars could park.

We ate again at "Mustang Sally's" and
enjoyed our burgers.   As we finished
eating, it started to rain.

and unfortunatly it continued to rain,
we headed down the street for an
ice cream cone hoping it would quit.

No such luck, so our first experience
of Kool Deadwood Nights was pretty
limited ~ we will have to go back
sometime and stay a couple of days.

Road Trip - Day 2, Black Hills

In the morning, we were off to wander
around the Black Hills.   We honeymooned in
the Black Hills 40 years ago and have
visited several times.

It was time again to stop in at Mount
Rushmore.  At Mount Rushmore, you only
pay to park, there is plenty to do (hiking,
shopping and museums).

We then drove, ended up at Norbeck Overlook (park
area).  We  unloaded our chairs and had some
lunch behind our packed car in the parking
lot (homemade sandwhiches hit the spot).

We didn't recall this area so there may
have been some improvements (parking lot etc)
in the last few years.

This was our view during lunch.

On to Custer State Park, so that we didn't
have to back track.

Needles Highway and the tunnel.

It is amazing what people drive through
this tunnel (trucks, campers, buses).

A stop at Sylvan Lake ~ they have a nice
gift shop (which they have remodeled
since we last stopped).

On the way back to Deadwood, we stopped
in Hill City at what used to be the Mangy
Moose -- it is still the same owner, we were
told, but the name was changed to
Tin City Saloon.

We took a break, sat and watched
the traffic.

Then to Kool Deadwood Nights
for the evening....

(the pictures of us have been revised
smaller in size ~ but it looks like if you
open the pictures up they are correct
and not pixeled).    I spent way too much
time on this issue and then ended up
messing things up when I cleared the
cache,  I couldn't access my email.  I know
it doesn't make sense.

Ugh technology.

Road Trip Day 1

We made it to Sturgis, South
Dakota.  It was the day after the
motorcycle rally ended, it was pretty
quiet and many of the vendors were
already moved out.

We have a couple of favorite spots here
that serve delicious "steak tips".  Our
first pick "The Knuckle" was closed
for cleanup and some rest.

So we headed to the "Loud American",
the music was loud and the beers
were still rally priced at $10.   The
steak tips were delicious!

~~~
Then we headed to Deadwood, SD to
spend a couple of nights.
After making plans and trying to
decide what our route (out west) would
be we found out that Deadwood Kool
Nights would be just starting in Deadwood.
A car show, it would make a great start
to our vacation.  We walked the
streets watching for the cars and maybe
shopping (window shopping) a bit.
We ate at another place we have been
at before "Mustang Sally's", they make
a good burger and big salads.
A early night in after our day of driving,
the cars show up tomorrow.
MN ~ ND ~ SD
(I am having issues with cellphone pictures
posting very grainy, will try to fix).
Busy Weekend
This weekend, we had company for
a couple of nights,   Grand #1 and #3.
There was some baseball catch
being played...
and we went to the local Mini Golf
(which by the way is very nice)
There were 3
Hole in Ones!
It was a fun time, we got to the last
two holes and it decided to rain.
So no picture, in front with the
mascots...
Part of the weekend we spent
preparing for a road trip that
is coming up.
2nd Week of August
 2nd Week of August, the weather
was really pretty nice (we still need
some rain).   The weather has been
much better with controlling of
those nasty flies that bug horses.
* We wished Daughter and Son-in-law
a Happy 13th Anniversary!
* We wished Hubby's Mom and Dad, a
Happy 66th Anniversary!
We voted!
And the old cat is now 10 years old,
quite a celebration for an outside
barn cat.
Heading into a fun weekend!
